A disturbing video has emerged showing the execution of a young couple in Balochistan, Pakistan. In the footage, the woman, Bano Bibi, tells her killer, “You are allowed only to shoot me. Nothing more than that.” The man then shoots her several times before turning the gun on her partner, Ahsan Ullah. The crowd present appears to cheer as both are killed.
The incident reportedly took place three days before Eid al-Adha in May 2025, on the outskirts of Quetta, the provincial capital. Police say the killings were ordered by a tribal elder, Sardar Satakzai, after Bano Bibi’s brother complained about her marriage, which had been done without his consent. The woman’s brother and the tribal leader are among 13 people arrested in connection with the crime. The Serious Crimes Investigation Wing is leading the inquiry.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan reports that at least 405 “dishonour” killings were recorded in 2024, though activists believe many cases go unreported. These killings are often based on traditional ideas of family honour and are usually carried out by close relatives.
This case has caused widespread outrage across the country, prompting calls for stricter laws and stronger enforcement to stop such crimes. The Balochistan High Court has taken suo motu notice of the killings and has summoned senior officials to provide updates on the investigation.
The tragic deaths of Bano Bibi and Ahsan Ullah highlight the ongoing problem of honour-based violence in Pakistan and the urgent need for legal reforms to protect vulnerable individuals from such acts.
