Oscar Piastri says he’s staying positive ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, even after what he called his “most challenging weekend” of the year in Monaco.

Despite the difficulties, Piastri still leads the 2025 Drivers’ Championship with 161 points, after earning four wins and three podiums in the first eight races. But with Lando Norris winning in Monaco, the gap between the McLaren teammates has narrowed to just three points.

Speaking to media on Thursday in Barcelona, Piastri said he’s pleased with how the season has gone so far: “It’s been a great first third of the year. I’m really happy with our results and how strong we’ve been overall.”

He admitted Monaco was tough, especially after struggling in qualifying, but feels confident about bouncing back: “It was probably the hardest weekend of the season so far, but we’ve already figured out most of the reasons why. These moments are part of a championship – you learn and move on.”

Piastri emphasized the importance of staying strong later in the season when the pressure increases: “You won’t have perfect weekends every time, but what matters is learning from the tricky ones. Monaco’s not a track where you can suddenly make a big leap — you need to build up gradually, and I just couldn’t quite get into that rhythm.”

Now heading into the Spanish GP, Piastri hopes to keep the momentum going as he continues his title fight with teammate Norris and rivals like Charles Leclerc.
