A major ice cream recall is underway as Wells Enterprises pulls back more than 17,800 cartons of ice cream and frozen yogurt over concerns of plastic contamination. The affected products include 22 popular flavors packaged in 3-gallon tubs, distributed to 103 locations across the U.S., including facilities in Le Mars, Iowa; Wyoming, Michigan; Rosemont, Illinois; Houston, Texas; and Fort Worth, Texas.
The recalled ice cream products have “Best If Used By” dates ranging from March 2026 to October 2026, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The FDA has classified this as a Class II recall, indicating that the affected products may lead to "temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects." The risk of serious health issues remains low, according to the agency’s official guidance.
As of now, no injuries or adverse health reactions have been reported in connection with the contaminated ice cream.
Consumers and retailers are urged to check their inventory and avoid serving or selling any of the recalled items. A complete list of recalled ice cream flavors, including product codes, quantities, and batch details, is available on the FDA's official website.
ABC News has reached out to Wells Enterprises for comment, but no official statement has been received at this time.
