Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly informed Alejandro Garnacho that he’s free to leave the club this summer. The decision follows tensions between the Argentine winger and his coach after the Europa League final loss to Tottenham.

Garnacho, who came on only in the 71st minute of the match, publicly expressed frustration over his limited role, despite contributing throughout the tournament. His brother also criticized the coaching decision on social media, intensifying speculation about Garnacho’s future.

According to The Athletic, Amorim has since made it clear to Garnacho that he can seek a transfer. The 20-year-old, who joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2020, has drawn interest from Chelsea and Serie A champions Napoli.

While Amorim remains focused on United’s final Premier League game against Aston Villa, he acknowledged that the club is planning for next season with or without European competition. Amorim is expected to downsize the squad and target new signings, including Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, who has a £62.5m release clause.

Although Garnacho is the second-highest scorer for United this season with 11 goals, he has never been a perfect fit in Amorim’s system, which doesn’t utilize traditional wingers. The manager had previously dropped Garnacho for poor training attitude and engagement, preferring other options like Amad Diallo and Mason Mount in key fixtures.

Given Garnacho’s homegrown status, selling him could ease Financial Fair Play constraints and allow greater squad flexibility. His future will likely be resolved after United’s final match of the season.
