Macomb County Man Convicted in Fatal Belle Tire Stabbing and Random Attacks

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. — A 33-year-old Michigan man, Shane Burns, has been found guilty in connection with a series of violent stabbings, including the fatal throat-slashing of a woman outside a Belle Tire store. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office announced that a jury convicted Burns on June 5 of multiple charges, including first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, disarming a peace officer, and several firearms-related offenses.

The attacks occurred on May 17, 2023, when Burns randomly stabbed 60-year-old Cheryl Ann Parsley as she was inflating her tires at Belle Tire. Shortly after, he also stabbed 42-year-old Robert Baecke Jr. multiple times at a nearby bus stop, authorities said.

Warren Police apprehended Burns later that day. While in custody at the Roseville Police Department, Burns reportedly attempted self-harm, engaged in a struggle with an officer, and seized a knife to slash his wrist.

A search of his vehicle uncovered a shotgun, a 9 mm handgun, and a large amount of ammunition, according to officials.

Prosecutor Peter Lucido emphasized the significance of the verdict, stating, “Today’s decision delivers justice for the victims of this tragic and senseless violence. We thank our law enforcement and prosecution teams for their diligent efforts.”

Burns faces a mandatory life sentence and is scheduled for sentencing on July 24.
