Two More Pennsylvania Witnesses Called in Bryan Kohberger's Idaho Student Murders Trial

Two additional Pennsylvania men—William Searfoss, a correctional officer, and Anthony Somma—have been named as potential witnesses in Bryan Kohberger’s high-profile University of Idaho student murders trial. Their testimony could be key as the court prepares for hearings to determine if they’ll be compelled to travel for the case, which is set to begin in August.

Searfoss worked at the Monroe County jail where Kohberger was held after his December 2022 arrest. While early reports suggested behavioral issues during Kohberger’s detainment, jail officials denied those claims. Somma appears to be linked to Kohberger’s past education, attending the same technical institute where Kohberger was once enrolled in a law enforcement program before being dismissed due to female students’ complaints.

These two join five other witnesses from Kohberger’s Pennsylvania background—ranging from former teachers to coaches—whom the defense may call to testify. Kohberger, a criminology Ph.D. student, is accused of fatally stabbing four University of Idaho students in November 2022. Prosecutors say DNA found on a knife sheath ties him to the scene and plan to use his academic work on criminal behavior as evidence.

If convicted, Kohberger could face the death penalty by firing squad.
