My internship at Sohail Smart Solutions has been an incredibly insightful and enriching journey that significantly enhanced my technical, creative, and professional skills. Over the course of this internship, I explored multiple areas of web development, UI/UX design, and graphic creation—all of which contributed to my growth and understanding of real-world digital projects.

Learning the Fundamentals of PHP

We began our internship with foundational training in PHP, where I learned core concepts such as data types, variables, comments, conditional statements, logical operators, increment/decrement operations, and loops. Although I had no prior experience with PHP, these lessons gave me a solid understanding of backend logic and server-side programming. This knowledge laid the groundwork for my confidence in tackling future development tasks.

Front-End Development: Young Journalist Project

One of the most valuable aspects of this internship was working on the Young Journalist project as a front-end developer and tester. Prior to this, I had only basic knowledge of HTML and had never built a functional website. This project gave me the opportunity to apply what I learned in a real-life setting—an experience that will benefit me greatly in both my future career and personal projects.

I was actively involved in developing the Articles Page, where I created responsive article cards, implemented hover effects, and added interactive animations to enhance the user experience. I also worked on the About Us page but focused primarily on the articles section due to its complexity and design demands. I used Visual Studio Code and Bootstrap for efficient and organized development.

This project motivated me to learn more independently—I watched YouTube tutorials, read articles, and used ChatGPT to troubleshoot and resolve issues I faced. As a result, I now feel more confident in my ability to design aesthetically pleasing and functional websites.

UI/UX Design with Figma

Another significant area of learning was UI/UX design using Figma. We worked on designing the official website for Sohail Smart Solutions. I learned how to create clean and user-friendly interfaces, apply animations, and build a design flow. This helped me understand how front-end development and UI design go hand in hand. I explored Figma’s features, including prototyping and layout grids, which deepened my knowledge and will help me in future design-related tasks.

Graphic Design for the Podcast Project

As part of the graphic design team, I was tasked with creating a portrait-style video for our podcast series. I used CapCut and various audio tools to edit clips, enhance sound quality, and add creative effects. My goal was to introduce each speaker with a visual that grabs the audience’s attention. This project pushed me to think creatively and develop storytelling through visuals. Although time-consuming, the process taught me a lot about media production, editing, and visual engagement.

I also started creating eye-catching posters for the company’s social media platforms. This required understanding visual balance, color schemes, and how to design content that communicates messages clearly and effectively.

Sustainability Ambassador Session

In addition to the technical experience, I participated in the Sustainability Ambassador Program, where we discussed the importance of sustainable living and its real-world impact. We explored areas such as food sustainability, financial sustainability, and other practical lifestyle changes that promote long-term ecological and personal well-being. This session encouraged me to be more mindful of my daily habits and the way we approach consumption in modern society.

HTML Basics Refresher

Lastly, we had a refresher session on HTML basics, which reinforced my understanding of tags, elements, and web structure. This helped me connect the dots between raw HTML code and modern front-end tools, such as Bootstrap and Figma.

Conclusion

This internship has been a transformative experience. From writing PHP code to designing interfaces in Figma, and from editing podcast videos to creating social media content, I’ve grown not just technically but also creatively. I am especially thankful for the hands-on nature of this opportunity, which allowed me to apply the knowledge I gained. I look forward to building on this experience and continuing to explore web development and design in the future.
