NEW DELHI, July 10, 2025 — A 4.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) at 9:04 AM on Wednesday morning, sending mild tremors across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad. The quake, which lasted between 5 to 10 seconds, caused no immediate damage or injuries, officials confirmed.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake’s epicentre was located in Jhajjar, Haryana — around 60 km west of Delhi — at a depth of 10 km. The exact coordinates were 28.63°N latitude and 76.68°E longitude.
This marks the second significant earthquake in Delhi-NCR in the past five months. The previous tremor, measuring 4.0 in magnitude, was recorded on February 17, 2025, with its epicentre in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan area.
Experts highlight that Delhi is situated in a seismically active zone, primarily due to the Delhi-Haridwar Ridge, a fault line prone to frequent earthquakes. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority has reiterated the importance of earthquake preparedness in the region.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) issued a public advisory following the quake, urging citizens to remain alert and follow standard earthquake safety protocols — including key precautions to take before, during, and after tremors.
Local residents shared their experiences. “I was getting ready for work in Manesar Industrial Area when the tremor hit. My wife was in the kitchen, and we both felt a sudden shake,” said Ravi Mehra, a Gurugram resident. While those in low-rise buildings described it as mild, high-rise occupants reportedly felt a stronger jolt.
