Anhui, China – Panic erupted at a major historical site in eastern China as the Fengyang Drum Tower, a 600-year-old landmark, partially collapsed, causing hundreds of roof tiles to fall to the ground. The incident, which occurred on Monday, startled tourists and raised concerns about the structural integrity of one of China's most iconic ancient towers.

Built in 1375 during the Ming Dynasty, the Fengyang Drum Tower is recognized as one of the largest and oldest ceremonial towers in China. Located in Anhui Province, approximately 200 miles from Beijing, the site draws thousands of visitors annually for its cultural and historical significance.

According to state media, a sudden cascade of roof tiles fell from more than two stories high, sending dust clouds into the air and causing nearby tourists to flee the area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the tower’s surrounding square was unoccupied at the time.

Witnesses described the incident as lasting “a minute or two,” with one observer recalling the sound of tile after tile crashing to the ground. “If it had happened just a little later, many children would have been playing nearby after dinner,” one local told The Beijing News.

Authorities have yet to release a statement on the cause of the collapse, but experts are expected to assess the tower’s condition and begin restoration efforts.
