New York: In a deeply emotional session at the United Nations Security Council, Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour broke down in tears as he described the tragic toll of Palestinian children killed in Gaza since March. Speaking during a humanitarian-focused debate on the ongoing conflict, Mansour revealed that over 5,000 Palestinian children had lost their lives, urging the Council to act immediately.

“These are not statistics — these are real lives, real futures,” he said, his voice shaking. Mansour accused Israel of targeting civilians and violating international humanitarian law, demanding swift international intervention and a permanent ceasefire.

Calling the crisis “a test of our collective humanity,” Mansour asked, “How many more children must die before the world says enough?”

The atmosphere in the chamber was somber. Many diplomats offered condolences and echoed calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian access. Still, the Council remained divided, and no consensus was reached.

Photos from Gaza on May 14, 2025, showed the devastating aftermath, including a grieving Palestinian woman holding the body of a child killed in Jabalia. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, with widespread destruction, displacement, and severe shortages of essential resources like food, water, and medical supplies. Aid organizations have warned of imminent famine and outbreaks of disease if hostilities persist.

Ambassador Mansour’s emotional plea reminded the world of the war’s devastating human cost — especially the countless children who will never get a chance to grow up in peace.
