Luis Díaz Refuses New Liverpool Deal as Barcelona Push Intensifies
Liverpool could be forced into a difficult decision regarding star winger Luis Díaz, who reportedly has no intention of signing a new contract amid serious interest from FC Barcelona. The Colombian international’s current deal runs until 2027, but he will soon enter the final two years—a crucial stage where clubs typically move to renew or sell.
Despite being under long-term contract, Díaz’s reluctance to extend his stay has sparked growing concerns at Anfield. His stance, reportedly influenced by Barcelona’s strong pursuit, leaves Liverpool at a crossroads: risk a drop in market value or sell while he still commands a high fee.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barça sporting director Deco sees Díaz, 28, as a “priority signing” due to his versatility, experience, and suitability to fit into their attack. His ability to operate both as a winger and central forward makes him an ideal successor to Robert Lewandowski, who turns 37 soon.
Liverpool’s valuation of Díaz is around €80 million (£67m / $90.2m)—a steep price for cash-strapped Barcelona. Yet, he's rated higher than alternative target Marcus Rashford, who is reportedly keen on a Barça move but isn’t as strongly backed by the club’s leadership.
Should Barcelona find the funds, selling Díaz could help Liverpool invest in key targets like Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike. The outcome of Díaz’s situation will significantly shape the Reds’ transfer strategy this summer.
