Lamine Yamal Becomes Barcelona’s Highest-Paid Player in Landmark 2031 Contract

Barcelona have officially secured the future of teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, with the 16-year-old forward signing a record-breaking contract that runs until 2031. The deal, effective immediately, cements Yamal’s place not only in the first team but among the club’s top earners, on par with the likes of Robert Lewandowski.

If performance-related bonuses are met, Yamal’s total package—including salary, signing-on fee, and bonuses—will reach nearly €40 million (£33.5m; $45.3m) annually before tax, making him Barcelona’s highest-paid player. Per Spanish tax laws, roughly 50% of that will go to the state.

There was never serious doubt over Yamal’s future. Both the club and the player were aligned in wanting to continue their partnership. However, his meteoric rise forced Barcelona to re-evaluate the terms originally planned.

Yamal’s previous contract, signed in October 2023, was set to automatically extend upon his 18th birthday on July 13, 2025. But after his breakout performances for both Barcelona and Spain, including his standout role in Spain's European Championship victory in Germany, the existing terms were deemed outdated.

The updated deal reflects Yamal's elevated status within the squad and ensures that Barcelona retain one of Europe's most electrifying young talents long-term. For the club, securing Yamal’s signature feels like winning silverware, and for fans, it marks a new era built around a generational star.
