In a bold move to strengthen the media sector and prepare the next generation of journalists, the United Arab Emirates has officially launched the UAE Media Academy in Abu Dhabi. The initiative, spearheaded by the UAE Ministry of Culture and Youth, aims to provide hands-on training and mentorship for students and early-career professionals in journalism, digital content creation, and media ethics.
The academy was inaugurated during a special ceremony at the Emirates Palace, where officials emphasized the UAE's commitment to becoming a regional hub for credible and innovative media. The event was attended by prominent figures from local media outlets, international partners, and university representatives.
“Our goal is to empower young voices and foster a new generation of journalists who can tell the stories of the region with integrity and impact,” said H.E. Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Youth. “In a time of global misinformation, nurturing responsible media has never been more important.”
The academy will offer a diverse curriculum that includes multimedia journalism, broadcast techniques, fact-checking, podcast production, and social media strategy. Courses will be developed in partnership with international media institutions such as Reuters, the BBC Academy, and the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. Students will also gain real-world experience through internships with UAE-based news outlets including The National, Gulf News, and Emirates News Agency (WAM).
One of the standout features of the UAE Media Academy is its integration of AI and data journalism into the core training modules. As the media landscape evolves, the academy seeks to ensure graduates are equipped not only with traditional storytelling skills but also with digital literacy and critical thinking.
Ali Al Hammadi, a journalism student at Zayed University, said, “The Media Academy is exactly what we need. It’s practical, future-focused, and helps us connect with professionals who’ve shaped the industry.”
The launch of the academy comes as the UAE continues its broader strategy to invest in knowledge-based industries, creative sectors, and youth empowerment. The initiative is aligned with the goals of UAE Vision 2031, which prioritizes education, innovation, and global competitiveness.
The first batch of students is expected to start in September 2025, and applications will open online in mid-June. The program will initially be offered in both Arabic and English, with plans to expand to online hybrid learning formats to reach a wider audience across the GCC.
With the UAE Media Academy, the country takes a major step toward cultivating a vibrant and resilient media ecosystem—one that amplifies youth perspectives while maintaining the highest journalistic standards.
